what i'm trying to say

The world is a funny funny place. How can a tv station go from one headline "Burmese Monks in Protest" to "Kiefer Sutherland in DUI arrest". Yeah, because a nations right to democracy is the same as an overindulgent actors pastimes.
I love celebrity gossip but please, let's keep things in context.
I don't know enough on the matter to go off on a rant but if people want to march for their freedom, they should be allowed. I read that the pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi made an appearance outside her home (where she's been under house arrest for the past 11 years) in support of the protesting monks. Burma is run by a military government, what they say, goes. They're even threatening the innocent protesters saying that they're putting their lives at risk. It infuriates me beyond belief that we live in a world where things like this still happen. The majority of us either brush it under the carpet or, even worse, are completely ignorant of what's going on.
This is one headline I definitely will be keeping an eye on.
Personally I don't care about the level of alcohol in Jack Bauers blood. But that's just me.

maybe you'll have to go

Insomnia's a bitch.
And it's freezing. I believe it's 1ÂșC outside! Hot water bottle for me then.

You should know what I'm talking about, Chewbaca (she doesn't know yet) and I are going to go to NYC and visit you sometime next year. How's that for a plan?

My iPod is frozen. Not from the cold, at least I don't think so. I love them, I really do. and I'm an apple girl (Mac G5 all the way) but I get kind of annoyed at my ipods flakiness... that's not the right word but I feel like it's flaking out on me! Especially at times when I need it the most. I think I'm too dependent on it. And now I'm talking like it's my boyfriend. Sad. Moving on...

Shakespeare was/is a genius. I was having a discussion with my mum the other day and we were saying that any quote or saying you can think of is likely to come from good aul Wills. What a man. I wonder if he knew that 400 years later his texts would be amongst the best in the world. It's a crazy thought.

Grey's Anatomy is one of the best tv shows EVER. There isn't one character I don't like. Each week I pick a new favourite, one I identify with. A few people have told me Meredith reminds them of me.... can't say I'm the happiest with that analogy, I mean I don't want to be dark and twisty, who does. Although if it means there's a McDreamy out there, then I'll take that comparison every day!

The kettle's finished boiling so I'm going to try and catch some Z's. Thanks for listening to my rambling.

Thoughts for a Thursday

You'd have to be living under a rock (at least in Europe) to have not heard about the disappearance of Madeline McCann this summer. Nobody really knows why, but this story has received mass media coverage and attention. Thousands of people go missing every year and chances are you'll hear about 5% of their stories. It's scary to think the media have so much control over us, or rather how we let it decide what we think of things.
Hooray for tangents!

For the whole summer, people hearts have gone out to the parents of this little girl with celebrities (beckham amongst others) appealing for help, businessmen offering million pound rewards for any information. Basically a huge outreach, cumulating in a website being set up where (so far) £2,000,000 has been donated by the public. For what, nobody really knows. This past week, it was revealed the parents (who protested their innocence from the beginning) are formal suspects in her disappearance. The two, being devout catholics, have been seen going to mass on a weekly basis and even flying to the vatican so the Pope himself could bless Madelines photo. If it turns
out the parents had something to do with it, I think people will have a hard time feeling sorry for them, regardless of the circumstances. It really is a mystery and I, like many others, can't really fathom what happened to the girl. I know the public and most people would like some sort of closure but I can't help but think the media (certain news channels spring to mind) don't want this to end.
One man, who I guess should be praised, is Ben Affleck. He has directed a film thats plotline bares a striking resemblance to this story. It's been decided that the films release in Britain will be shelved, for the foreseeable future anyway.

Enough of that!

When I turn on the radio I hear the intro to (a classic) Stand By Me. But wait, isn't this song like really old? What's it doing on daytime radio? No, no, it's the summer's most annoying song 'Beautiful Girls' by some Jamaican child. The guy, who can't be more than 12, okay 18, waxes lyrical on how these beautiful girls make him suicidal. What a great upbeat song for the summer! At one point he talks about doing time in 1999, wouldn't that make him a child then?!?!
Madness.

Films I would like to see:
Superbad because I like to laugh.
Atonement we all love a good brit war flick, though I cannot stand the lead female.
Disturbia because I have a (slightly inappropriate, given his age) crush on Shia!

for marie...

you're right, he does have lovely blue eyes... unfortunately my red-eye prone camera doesn't pick it up!

I love blue eyes. All light eyes actually. I find them more attractive than dark eyes. FACT!

I use exclamation points far too much.

Save the Cheerleader

I love Heroes! I'd heard a few things about this show but I missed it the first time around. I think I was slightly skeptical of its "sci-fi" tag. I caught the second episode and by the end I was on the edge of my seat. I've missed a few epsiodes but BBC2 are having a catchup this weekend. Since I have no money to go out, this is perfect! If you haven't seen any, I strongly recommend a view! You can find some episodes on tv-links or peekvid.
Trust me, you'll be hooked!

i love her voice.
Listen to Hometown Glory, it makes me think of Autumn evenings...

jobity job job

Job hunting is a difficult task. It's even more difficult when you don't know what you're looking for. Take each day as it comes, that phrase is really thrown out the window when it comes to these matters. If I was to follow that motto (and I only mean in reference to jobs), I'd probably be homeless in a month. I would love nothing more than to travel all over at this stage. But what do you need to do this? MONEY. I could always get a loan but the thought of being in debt irks me. I need to find my forte but at this point I don't really know what it is. Wouldn't it be great if someone else could decide your entire life for you. You would queue up, go to a booth where a man would give you a page with boxes to tick, which would be analysed and within seconds you would be living your dream life, in your dream country, with a dream job and family. Sounds perfect ey? It would, of course, defeat the whole purpose of what we know as life. The thing's that have made us who we are, that have molded us, would be rendered pointless.

I think it's crazy how much there is in the world. I know it's a vague statement but there's so much to do and it scares me that I won't do enough. For example, I was in the bookshop the other day and I spent a good hour browsing. This is one of my favourite things to do when I'm by myself. As I was looking, I began thinking about how many books exist and how many of those books I've actually read. I don't even want to know how low a percentage that would be. From now on when I'm buying a book, I'm going to be spontaneous!
Re-reading that paragraph has really confirmed my suspicions of how much of a geek I am!
Seriously though, if you've read a good book, please recommend!

Kanye West has hit out at MTV over their decision to let Britney open the VMAs. I watched the show, and it really was a trainwreck. I don't think the backlash is overboard but some of it is unnecessarily mean. Sure she doesn't have the washboard abs she used to, but she has had two children and compared to most women she is still on the smaller side. I still have faith in her (I think I'm the only one) and think she'll be able to bounce back, I don't know when though!

Hooray Hooray

Ah the classic caramel shortcake. It's usually baked in trays, then cut when set. The biscuit, as buttery or crumbly as you like; the caramel, dense or not, you decide; and the chocolate topping can be milk, dark, or for you hardcore lot, made with 99% cocoa solids. I would easily devour an unmentionable amount were I left alone in a dark room (or a light one for that matter). Carrying the name 'Millionaire Squares', they are oft thought to be on the exquisite and luxurious end of the tea-time biscuit chain. Now, they are widely available, regardless of class. I sometimes wish I lived in an age when the consumption of such foods was reserved for certain times of the social calendar. I don't mean for that to sound as snobby as it will. I think the days when champagne and lobster were reserved for special occasions are coming to an end. Marks & Spencer (a family favourite) sell prepared, ready to eat, Lobster Thermidor at the affordable* cost of €25, or there abouts.
Terribly overpriced but let's be honest, in this day and age when people think nothing of handing over €1.70 for a 50cl bottle of water, it comes as no surprise that people will buy Lobster for their traditional TV dinner.

The music world is going into overdrive with all the speculation surrounding a certain Ms. Spears. Will she win over the critics with her new material? What is she going to do to top her previous VMA preformances (2001: the snake, 2003: that kiss)? Is she dating her choreographer/magician? Will her comeback be a hit or a miss?
I have to give the girl credit for making the attempt to revive her (very) dormant career. The new song is getting a lot of positive feedback although there is a lot of skepticism towards the rest of her new material.
I can't wait to see what she pulls of the proverbial hat on Sunday. I have your back Brit.

On several occasions when watching a band play (usually lesser-known support acts) I've casually remarked who I think said band resembles musically... And on several occasions I've read the same thing weeks later in many magazines.
It's a game I play far too often, a=lovechild of b+c. Take one James Morrison (a guilty pleasure of mine), I'm thinking lovechild of Lightbody and Martin, no? This is based purely on looks but I do it with music among other things...

So I'd just like to say that Air Traffic remind me of Coldplay,
and The Dead 60's are Maximo Park meets Hard-Fi!

one last thing

Found this picture on their website! I wasn't as aware of the camera as those around me, reckon I was watching the stage intently.

Intro to snow patrol...
They used teenage kicks by the undertones, another famous northern irish band. I think Gary is like Chris Martin with his jumping around. This turned into Hands Open but I stopped filming because I wanted to enjoy it! The man who's had pops up in the first few seconds is one of the photographers!

I don't know why the sound is so bad, but you get the gist of it! I guess with 30,000 people singing and being that close to the stage and amps, the sound on my poor digicam was going to suffer!

WOW

I can't really think of any words to describe how amazing yesterday was so I'll put up a few photos....
