If you haven't done so already, buy it. There are 9 songs by both Irish and International artists and all proceeds go to Oxfam's Fair Trade project.

A personal fave from the LP is this lovely tune. Okay I'm biased, what with my obsession with Mr. Lightbody, but it's a beaut!

Fringe Benefits

As previously mentioned, i left the hairdresser with a fringe this weekend. It's my first one since... about 1986 when I was the lucky owner of a Beatles-esque pudding bowl haircut!
I'd like to think of it as a mix between

and

I didn't know how much styling it takes for the fringe to look right, it's going to take some experimenting.

What a first world problem to have ey?

14 days until I depart for Gay Paree!! I'm sort of excited/nervous/anxious/in disbelief. I've talked about this for many years so I can't believe it will become a reality in a mere number of days!
As the day gets closer, I'm starting to realise that I will (despite my feelings on the place) miss Ireland! Off the top of my head I think food and shops will be the big thing. I know France=Fabulous cuisine but I love my batch bread, Tayto Crisps, Ribena.... the list goes on. At least Dublin is less than 2 hours away for those vital items!
And I know that anyone who has a clue about shopping will probably refuse to believe I could miss shops while in Paris, but there are only two for whom I'll be pining.... Favourite no. 1 and favourite no. 2.
And how could I forget about Penny's, the cheapest shop of all where this weekend I picked up a darling black mac with white trim... mmm Mmm MMM!

I am in awe of Marion Cotillard. She looked incredible (in what I believe was a Gaultier) at last nights ceremony. Most humble speech award goes to Glen Hansard and (when she was allowed back on, aw to Jon Stewart) Marketa Irglova. Even though everyone here was expecting them to win, it's still such a shock. Irish people don't usually win big so it's fun when we do! I think it's hilarious how none of the acting awards went to Americans but to be honest the best people got the awards, with the exception of Tilda Swinton who just irritates me but that's personal! Of all the photos I've seen so far there doesn't appear to be any roadkill fashion moments. Red (one of my favourite colours) was pretty dominant in gown colours, some standout dresses for me were the following.....

people.com have everything you need to know about the clothes and the speeches etc etc

This weekend: I got a fringe, danced til my feet hurt, traded insults with French men (in jest of course), saw Juno, ate too much.

I'm excited for the Oscars. I've always loved them for as long as I can remember. When I was in secondary school I used to go to bed a few hours earlier and then set my alarm for 3 so I could watch them live and get the results. I'll see what happens tonight. I would love for Ellen Page to win, she's so likeable in Juno. Over here we're mostly excited about Daniel Day (Best Actor), Saoirse Ronan (Best Supporting Actress) and Glen Hansard (of the Frames) for Best Song. I think Cate Blanchet will take Saoirses prize though. If she does happen to win, I hope to God they pronounce her name properly (Sear Sha).

The countdown begins......

tales of a monday

my days are a blur of minstrels, capri sun, caramel macchiatos (butlers not sta*bux), bus journeys, lighter mornings, calm dusk, japanese food, sweet tunes......

i saw a film called 'battle in seattle' this weekend, it was the premiere so the director stuart townsend (and his girlfriend charlize theron) did a Q&A after which was cool. great film. i still have yet to see juno despite everyones rave reviews. i've seen the soundtrack and it's good to see the moldy peaches finally getting some recognition.
another lady who is definitely getting recognition these days is duffy, whose 60s style track mercy is no. 1 on this side of the atlantic right now. be careful before you click, it's strangely addictive.

In the middle of planning a trip to the States during August, the plan is NYC for 5 days, Seattle for 6 and LA for 7. It should be fun! There's so much that I want to do in each city so it's either going to be a very action-packed 18 days or I'll have to be picky about what we do.
I leave for Paris in 28 days... I'm thinking about starting a new blog, soley for my adventures there. You know, fresh start and all that. I'll be sure to tell all 2 people who read this!

I can't wait to browse the markets and see all the colours and fresh fruit and veg. Cooking ingredients like that really will be a treat. Lately I've been craving salmon. I make the easiest pasta dish ever with cream, salmon and courgettes....... MMMM!

The writers strike is pretty much over, though I'm not sure if any shows will be returning for this season. It must be annoying for all the ideas they had, to have to change storylines and whatnot.
I'm most devestated about Joshua Jackons appearance on Grey's being cancelled. That would have been TV heaven for me.
That or Gary Lightbody being examined by McDreamy.......
Or Jim Halpert......
And with that thought, off to bed I go.

Pancake AND Super Tuesday
So today is a D-day of sorts. Although from what I hear,
it's still hard to tell who will take the democrat candidacy.
Why are foreign politics much more interesting than domestic issues?!

Good song for a morning.... I love this so much.

This world is not for you

Michelle Williams released what can only be described as a brave and admirable statement. Although, she really shouldn't have had to do such a thing. I suppose that's how media hungry people are these days. And speaking of.... Sarkozy and his supermodel bird were apparently married this morning, amid rumours of a pregnancy!?!? Seriously, do what you want in your private life but keep it private. You're running a country for Gods Sake. Things are looking okay for Britney. Her family have the rights to everything important so hopefully she'll get better this time.
I saw The Breakfast Club, an old fave, in the cinema this week. What a hilarious film. There's so many films I want to see but such little time.
I have a feeling some probably aren't out anymore....
There Will Be Blood
Cloverfield
Charlie Wilsons War
Juno
The Savages
Sweeney Todd
No Country For Old Men

I got tickets to see Band Of Horses, one of my fave indie acts. Can't wait. And I fly One way to Paris on 11th March...... Weeeeee.
