The $1000 dessert
I've never been myself, but there's this restaurant in NYC called Serendipity. Being a complete sucker for chick flicks I have, of course, seen the 2001 film of the same name (with John Cusack - LOVE him) where the two main characters dine in the aforementioned place. Apparently even Oprah is a fan, and you know when something gets the Oprah stamp of approval, it's set for life!
Anyway, amongst all the crazy food they do, they make the worlds most expensive ice-cream sundae..... for $1000.
According to various websites the recipe for this treat is as follows:
Made with "5 scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate, which is from cocoa beans harvested by the Caribbean Sea on Venezuela's coast. The masterpiece is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar, an exclusive dessert caviar, made of salt-free American Golden caviar, known for its sparkling golden color. It's sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The sundae is served in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgenceserved with a petite mother of pearl spoon and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel".
Save the madagascar vanilla, it doesn't really appeal to my tastebuds.
I think I'll stick with Ben & Jerrys, thanks.

Beirut
No, not the city, the band.
I discovered this band through a radio1 show. I can't remember who played it. The second I heard the accordian I was reminded of Yann Tiersens soundtrack to Amelie, it's so similar.
When I found out the the bands' front (and only) man Zach Condon was heavily influenced by The Magnetic Fields and The Smiths (two of my favourite bands) I was hooked. Imagine classic indie music intertwined with an Eastern European sound.
He plays in Berlin on the 5th of July, which hopefully gives enough time for a visit to the oxegen festival on the weekend of the 8th/9th.
Stop by the myspace page for a listen. They will grow on you, that's a promise.

The Moral Of The Story is....
Never wear fake nails! I've always thought they looked awfully tacky and have never had a problem with my own so I don't know why I tried them....
In a friends on Saturday and we decided to have a girlie night in (You know, ice-cream, old teen flicks, pjs -- The lot). My friend, who will remain nameless, produced face packs and fake nails. So we did the obligatory cucumbers over eyes and the rest. And stuck on the fake nails. The instructions on the back read: "To remove simply dip fingers in nail polish remover"... which is what I tried to do tonight.
OUCH!
My nails now have this matte appearance and I think the artifical ones may have removed some of the skin of the nail (if that's what it's called).
Now I can't remember why I wrote this but the orange publish button is screaming at me so here I go....

I can't believe I did it. . .but I spent €269 on a new iPod. I miss my old one (rip minnie) but I guess the benefit of the video one is that I can have, well, videos on it. I figured out how to transfer DVDs onto it so I put on an episode of Grey's Anatomy!! Now I will have McDreamy with me wherever I go, not many people can say that!
