"I'm not a pushover so you can stop thinking that. You should be ashamed of yourself!"

BOO!

Happy Hallowe'en!

Back to the grindstone. I love long weekends, but they confuse my days. It's darker in the evenings now, but brighter in the mornings?!? Last week a beam of sunshine would stream onto my desk at about 4pm and today at the same time it was already dusk.

I read an interesting article today about a Slovakian nationalist priest in the 1930's. Apparently in 1938 the guy proclaimed himself as a "Slovak Hitler". This was around the same time that Hitler and the Third Riech were coming into prominence (I think, my history is so bad). Anyway, the current Slovak President is recognising this guy, now deceased, despite his obvious pro-hitler comments. It makes you think, how far has the world come since last century? There'll always be people like that I suppose...

Which leads me onto a another leader, Sarkozy. His environmental policies for France sound too good to be true. Let's see if the rest of the world will follow. His sociable skills could definitely do with a review given his recent interview with an American station. If you don't want to talk about something, just say so. There's no need to walk out like a petulant child.

I always forget how much I take technology for granted. Since my iPod was stolen, I've been using an old discman. A song will skip with even the smallest of movements. I find this particularly annoying because when I'm walking on my own, I tend to do so at a very fast pace. If I'm listening to fast music, I'll walk faster... It's harder when the song keeps skipping though.

My favourite songs at the moment are
this (Morrissey copycats but I like it!)
and

THIS!

24 hours....

Good: Arcade Fire in what was undoubtedly the best concert I have ever seen.

Bad: My handbag containing my wallet, keys, ipod... life, was stolen.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

I'm going to Arcade Fire tomorrow! The tickets sold out in seconds when they went on sale in August and I decided I'd go to London to see them. That's grand. Today I got a text from my mum that said "Arcade Fire tickets for tmw?" She got two tickets from somebody in her office, they couldn't go because they were sick. I would have to be on my deathbed to turn down those tickets. Anyway, I have my gold dust (ie the tickets) and can't wait!!! They were great at Oxegen but I can't wait to see them on their own as headliners. Also, Clinic are supporting, they're awesome. This is going to be amazing.
I can feel a flu coming on, this will definitely be the case by Thursday morning!

Ramble....
I'm going to London to see Arcade Fire and then onwards to Paris. I'm going by the Eurostar, never been on it before so it should be interesting. I can't wait to see Arcade Fire, they're playing two dates here this week but I couldn't get tickets for either show. I'm contemplating going to the Phoenix Park (where they're playing) and seeing if I can get it, but it's not the nicest place to be stranded if I was unsuccessful. I should be starting a job on Tuesday. In the offices of one of Dublin's department stores. It'll tie me over until Paris and I'll have money. I need to save. My skin has been really bad lately. I think I need to cut out a lot of rubbish in my diet. There's so many different lotions and such that I could use, but how does one know which to use? Sometimes the good ones cost more money, not a problem if it helped my skin, but it's not always the case. It's such a first world problem, worrying about the appearance of your skin. I think I'll try a few different methods every week until something sticks. I want to buy a few dresses that can be dressed up, or down, for winter. Urban Outfitters will probably be my best bet. In that shop, it's almost like somebody has been inside my brain, then picked my perfect wardrobe and my perfect soundtrack. I want to learn more about Political Science. There's so much to learn and I hate to think that I'll probably die not knowing nearly as much as I should. Such is the nature of life I suppose. The new Band of Horses album is good but I don't like it as much as the first one. It's a bit more, country, or something. Sometimes when bands take a different direction, it can work in their favour, and sometimes it can't. Time will tell what happens with them. I think I'm going to get a fringe when I get my hair cut this week, and dye it slightly darker. I'm a bit skeptical but I need something new. As a result of walking everywhere for my whole life, I have very musclely calves. Toned calves are nice, but mine look like rugby players legs. The thing is I don't think there is an ounce of fat on them, so I can't make them smaller. When I would go to the gym, I used to used all the machines that work on your lower body, even though I got enough exercise there from walking. Consequentially, my upper body is not toned. I need to motivate myself to do about 1000 sit ups a day and then it'll be grand. That's not going to happen though! In the day's of spellcheck it infuriates me when spelling mistakes are still so prominent in newspapers and magazines. I'm not praising spellcheck, in fact, I hate the thing. We had to learn spellings all through primary school but with the amount of families dependent on computers these days, I think correct spelling is gone out the window. When I was reading a leading newspaper today I picked up about four mistakes in almost as many articles. I think it comes from being the daughter of an editor. I should probably have just written all this down somewhere else but I guess this is what having a blog is for.

I've got a craving of the peppermint kind

I want to watch My Best Friends Wedding.

Maps is the recording name used by musician James Chapman. The debut album We Can Create, released earlier this year, nominated for the Mercury Music Prize lost out to Klaxons. I've been listening to a few tracks and am in love with Don't Fear. Of the songs I've heard, it's mainly a mix of indie and electronica, two of my faves.

In more shallow news, my Grey's Anatomy Season 3 arrived today. The perfect companion to the winter evenings ahead. Well I wouldn't say no to a McDreamy either but my DVDs will have to do the job for the moment.

"Cupids wings have Cobwebs rings and no ones about." - Rufus Wainwright

My cupids wings definitely have cobweb rings.

This past week I've only been listening to two artists; Rufus Wainwright and Radiohead. The former because I saw him in concert and the latter because of their new material. To be honest I was never really on the Radiohead bandwagon, I think I just missed that phase. But last year I got Thom Yorkes solo album and it was easily one of my albums of 2006. That made me listen to more of Radioheads stuff. Sure most of it is depressing, but I don't find it tiring or irritating, as a lot of 'depressing' music can be. The new one is really good, but I keep going back to an older song called "Fog Again". It's so pretty.

Rufus needs no introduction or explanation but if you happen to be a lurker who has never listened to him , WHY!? You should start listening now.
His voice is incredible and will challenge everything you think you know, or have ever heard. He's a genius.

This guy is amazing. Adorable. He loves Rufus too. Jonathan Ross is my favourite TV personality, he is so funny.
The first part:
(the last minute is hilarious)

and the second:
he looks so much like his sister when he's a child.

what a way to start the weekend!
Oh and that film looks so good.

Sunday, October 7, 2007

So Britney lost the kids and apparently now her mum and younger sister are trying to help her. Her song is doing really well and I'm guessing her album will too. She needs to focus on her personal life though, hopefully the reconciliation with her family will help.

This looks funny. Can't wait to see it.

I think I might just go over to France for New Years. Nothing exciting ever happens here anyway and I don't have anyone to kiss at midnight. If I go to France maybe Thierry will be waiting for me... He's a divorced man now.

Love Actually

I know it's kind of soon, but I don't care! I love this film SO much!

Always the same

Irish is a hilarious language. Now they have South Park in Irish on television! Brilliant! It's a pity more of us don't speak it. I have no idea how about 70% of the population can learn a language for 14 years (from the ages of 4-18) yet not be able to speak a word! It's embarrassing.

The job hunt continues. I've seen some pretty good ones so we'll see what happens. I can't believe it's October already, this year is flying by. It irritates me to see Christmas displays already though. It's ridiculous. I think it looses its' magic. If we were to keep all things Christmas out of the shops etc until 1st December, I think the atmosphere would be nicer. In Ireland, radio stations refuse to play any Christmas songs until the 1st. I can't wait to watch Love Actually in the run up! I've been on a Colin Firth binge recently! He was on an english chat show on Saturday promoting his new film. I can't believe he's 47, he looks great.
Useless fact: There is only 1 day between him and Hugh Grant. They were both born in September 1960, Grant on the 9th and Firth on the 10th!
Anyway, I've been watching Pride and Prejudice (The BBC one, not the Kiera Knightley one-awful) on video! When it originally aired on tv in 1995, I watched it with my mum and granny. My Granny bought the videos for me and we used to watch them. It's a story that will never get old, and Colin Firth is a darling.

It's too soon to make New Years Resolutions but I want to learn how to ski, or at least give it a go. I'm thinking Alps next spring!

I have a lot to say but I'm too tired to say it so a blog will come shortly.
Good Night!
